Watch the video above from MSNBC with fmr. Millennium Promise Alliance Team Leader and Education Coordinator, John Mugabo explaining the concept of Community Education Workers. Rwandan Community Education Worker, Anne-Marie Mukaruzima works with students to encourage them to stay in school. Efforts like this have been responsible for improving drop-out rates.
The Millennium Village Project's “Community Education Workers" (CEW) concept, including name and responsibilities, were recently adopted in the new National Education Policy of the Republic of Rwanda. We are thankful to the Government of Rwanda for its vehement support to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the inspiring work of CEWs, and our Rwanda team, which include longtime Education Coordinator and Team Leader, John Mugabo for their significant contributions towards this achievement.
Millennium Promise Alliance believes Community Education Workers, like Anne-Marie featured in the video above and many others are heroes whose dedication and commitment help communities to achieve SDG 4, and access to quality education.

(ii) improving school data management system (SDMS) by introducing student identification numbers to track students’ evolution and fight school dropouts, (iii) working with parents through School General Assembly Committees (SGACs)“
