Table for Two is an organization based in Japan with the mission of simultaneously addressing hunger in the developing world and obesity and other lifestyle related diseases in the developed world. To do this work, the organization supports school meal programs in developing countries using donations from the purchase of healthy meals in developed nations helping to balance the scales between the over and undernourished. With funds generously donated through this unique program, Table for Two supports the school meal programs in the Uganda, Rwanda and Malawi Millennium Villages.
Millennium Promise is proud to partner with Table for Two in their mission to bring balance and health to the world. Through these types of strategic partnerships, together we can achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
How the program works:
1. Company cafeterias and restaurants that participate in the program agree to serve healthy meal options that meet Table for Two’s healthy diet criteria.
2. When the healthy meal is served, Table for Two supporters agree to donate 20 cents per meal. The 20 cents may be incurred by the employer, food service provider, suppliers or the employee.
3. Using the donation, school meals are provided at participating schools in developing countries at a cost of 20 cents per meal. Participating schools are accountable for monitoring and periodically reporting the delivery of school meals and the health of school children to whom the meals are provided.

“Millennium Promise is proud to be participating in this very important initiative that will help raise global awareness about the severe hunger challenges facing our world today. Through the Millennium Villages project we’re seeing how free school lunches can make a tremendous impact on decreasing hunger, improving nutrition, and raising school attendance and performance for children in the poorest communities in Africa.”
