Millennium Promise PovertyLadders

Good Shepherd

Tanzania Promise:
A project by the Ohio Community of the Good Shepherd in Cincinnati and St. John Parish in West Chester will support Millennium Promise's goal to implement proven, practical solutions to help support self-sustaining Villages in Africa.

Imagine if your grandmother, your father, or your younger sibling was living in a situation without access to the necessities of life.  Imagine if they were living in extreme poverty…. Would there be any limit to the effort you would apply towards assisting them?

As followers of Jesus we believe without question that all people are our brothers and sisters.  As St. Paul said, when one member of this family suffers, “we all suffer.”  So, what to do when we see in this world over one billion people living in extreme poverty?  We must take action.

Our action is to work with Millennium Promise.  We do so for a variety of reasons:
* Self-sustaining: They empower villages to become self-sufficient.
* A comprehensive approach: They address vital issues including access to clean water, food, infrastructure, the environment, gender equity, health care, business development, and community leadership.
* Significant success: Dramatic results have already been achieved in a variety of areas and locations.
* 100% to the village: Our entire donation will go to the effort in Mbola, Tanzania. Corporate administrative costs are covered from other sources.
* Leadership: Access to some of the best development experts in the world.

Our goal is…
* To raise over $700,000 over the next five years.
* To awaken the consciousness of our faith communities.
* To provide a variety of spiritual and educational opportunities.
* To help make difference in the lives of own community as well as to be of service to our brothers and sisters in Mbola.
