JOB SUMMARY
Lead and support the Implementation of a package of interventions to achieve Education related MDGs in the Project Cluster within a record time.
Purpose of the Position
Under the guidance of the Regional Education Specialist, MDG Centre, West & Central Africa, the Education Coordinator will work in close collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations in education in Kaduna state and Nigeria in general to contribute to the achievement of the MDG Goal in Education;
More specifically, s/he will:
1. Ensure that girls and boys receive quality education and complete primary, secondary formal and non-formal education, (including Islamic, Alternative Learning Provision, literacy Technical/Vocational Training and Life-Skills).
2. Oversee the implementation of a package of interventions to accelerate the attainment of education related MDGs objectives at the Pampaida Cluster level.

This is a Nationally Recruited position with a competitive salary. The employment contract is for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal.
Location
The e-Education Coordinator will be based at the Pampaida MVP site, Kaduna. The position will require periodic travel.

CORE FUNCTIONS OF GLOBAL EDUCATION INITIATIVE INTERNS
This Millennium Promise internship supports the work of a new global education initiative, Connect To Learn, formed in partnership between Millennium Promise, the Earth Institute, and Ericsson. S/he will work closely with the initiative’s Director, as well as colleagues across the organization to fulfill his/her role. This is an ideal opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student with some strong combination of the following interests and attributes looking for hands-on experience in an exciting new global program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum and Educational Resources Internship:
Intern will be continuing work on a curriculum project focused around the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for CTL’s School-to-School Connections program and developing additional educational materials. This program links schools in the USA with schools in Africa. This curriculum is in a pilot stage (under-going review and feedback) includes lesson plans, student activities, and a teachers’ manual. Next steps should include building an ICT enabled platform, enhancing teacher collaboration and use of curriculum, and reviewing/matching curriculum to national standards of African countries. Additional educational materials will include trainings about ICT and adaptions for the classroom, teacher professional development, and resources for girls clubs/mentorship programs.
Development, Communications, and Marketing Internship
• Event planning and coordination (through September)
• Support with maintaining and updating social media channels, including CTL’s website, Facebook, and Twitter.
• Create, edit, and/or proofread a broad range of materials about Connect To Learn for general, donor, and media audiences
• Respond to phone calls, online inquiries, and other requests to engage media and individuals in the mission of Connect To Learn
• Work on special projects as needed
• Help to organize and maintain departmental files, documents, and procedures
• Research & administrative support
• Writing project proposals and developing budgets for programs
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Interest in international development, global education, gender parity, issues surrounding the development and empowerment of girls and women, or related fields
• Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, with a demonstrated interest in international development or business focus preferred.
• Prior knowledge and/or experience in curriculum development in the international context is a must for curriculum internship
• Strategic planning and program development experience a major plus
• Experience in journalism, writing, public relations, press outreach and communicating about an international health/grassroots issue
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Outstanding and proactive organizational skills.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Social media/social networking experience a big plus
• Graphic design, film/video and/or media presentation skills highly desirable

LOCATION
This position reports the Director, Global Education Initiative. The internship will be based in New York City at either the Connect To Learn or Millennium Promise offices either in mid-town Manhattan or Columbia University campus.

Terms of Reference
Position Overview
The Financial Controller is a key member of Millennium Promise's leadership team and will play an instrumental role in the organization's financial management. The Controller will oversee the financial and accounting functions for the organization, including the daily management of cash flow, monthly and quarterly financial reporting, preparation of annual budgets, financial analysis, the tracking of financial transactions in the United States and internationally with African-based colleagues, and the coordination and management of the annual external audit.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities for the Controller include:
• Daily cash flow management
• Monthly financial reporting
• Managing the general ledger including the tracking of restricted and unrestricted donations, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, payroll, bank transfers and bank reconciliations
• Financial analysis and recommendations
• Providing reports with both operational and executive views including cash flow, income statement, balance sheet, variance from budget and other relevant reporting such as by specific activity (Sector)
• Owning the annual external audit process and procedures, serving as the key interface with independent auditors
• Leading the planning and annual budget process for the New York office, the regional centers in Nairobi and Bamako, and for the on-site village cluster operations
• Helping structure the accounting system to ensure it is optimized to manage and report on cash flows and operations
• Keeping financial policies and procedures for New York and international operations up to date
• Maintaining appropriate internal accounting controls and ensuring strong internal audit oversight
• Resolving issues, questions and disputes related to tax and reporting obligations with IRS and State agencies
• Contributing to the oversight of the organization's financial management across 10 or more countries in Africa, Canada and the United Kingdom
• Supporting the financials with UN agencies and other partners
• Reviewing the annual insurance policy renewals for appropriate levels of coverage for the organization
• Appraising the organization's financial position and generating reports for the Treasurer, CEO, senior managers and Board
• Leading the finance team as a member of the senior management team
Required Professional Characteristics
• Experience as a controller or assistant controller with 7 years + experience in finance, with at least 3-5 years as a financial analyst in an established, structured organization
• Strong experience with a variety of accounting systems with the ability to adapt those systems to the organization’s needs
• Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel a must (pivot tables, algorithms and advanced functionality)
• Strong financial communication and reporting skills
• Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment managing multiple projects simultaneously
• A hard-working financial executive who is willing to "roll-up-the-sleeves" and become deeply involved in the details to accomplish objectives
• Bachelor's degree with preference for degree in business, accounting, finance or economics
Preferred Characteristics
• Knowledgeable of GAAP financial statement preparation, budgeting, cash flow forecasting and management, audit process, insurance, tax reporting, payroll, and HR benefits
• Some experience with international accounting and regulatory requirements is preferred; familiarity with international development is ideal.

Position Overview
The Director of Partnerships & Development will work with the Board and the leadership of Millennium Promise to develop and execute the overall fundraising strategy for the organization towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Managing a team of 3-5 people, the Director will oversee Millennium Promise’s relationships with individuals, foundations and corporate partners, working closely with the program, field and communications teams.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the team responsible for raising approximately $10m per annum with support of the CEO and the board of directors, primarily through multi-year pledges and large grants
• Responsible for the review and adaptation of Millennium Promise’s partnerships and development strategy
• Build development and partnerships plan; report monthly on progress
• Lead efforts to strengthen existing relationships with the Board, individual donors, corporations and foundations (‘partners’) interested in achieving the Millennium Development Goals
• Identify and develop new strategic partnership opportunities with major donors and partners
• Oversee Millennium Promise’s donor and partner reporting processes; write proposals, make presentations and be directly responsible for the quality of proposals to new and existing partners
• Oversee the management of the donor stewardship strategy
• Liaise with the program and field teams to understand and support their needs and the implementation of programs funded by donors and partners
• Evaluate current and future programs implemented with foundation and corporate partners; identify opportunities for future program development
• Oversee the creation of content-rich communication materials directed at individual, foundation and corporate partners as well as external audiences
• Maintain strong working relationships with the Millennium Villages Project and Development teams at The Earth Institute at Columbia University for knowledge-sharing, collaboration and implementation of strategic partnerships
Requirements
• Minimum 7-10 years of experience working in relationship management or business development
• Exceptional interpersonal skills; demonstrated success in developing and maintaining senior client or donor relationships
• Proven track record of closing major financial commitments (6-7 figure) with prospective supporters
• A leader with demonstrated successful team management experience (3-5 years minimum)
• Strong technical writing and editorial skills. Demonstrated ability to understand and clearly articulate complex, technical development issues and to synthesize these issues into concise documents.
• Highly organized with strong planning, project management and reporting skills. Strong attention to detail
• Strong donor tracking skills. Experience with databases and tools such as Raiser’s Edge.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, resource-limited environment. Demonstrated experience in meeting deadlines under pressure.
